Beiersdorf opens new sites in the US

German group Beiersdorf has opened new facilities in the US to strengthening its presence in the region.

The facilities inlcude an Innovation Center in Florham Park, New Jersey and a new North American headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut.

Beiersdorf says that the New Jersey site is a “science hotbed” and that the location is home to other research and development centers providing the group with access to talent and universities, suppliers and testing institutes.

The new facility is one of two regional Beiersdorf Innovation Centers in the world – the other is in Shanghai. The New Jersey site is the company’s first global center for over-the-counter and suncare products outside of Hamburg, Germany.

Beiersdorf CEO Vincent Warnery said: “The Beiersdorf Innovation Center will be our powerhouse in North America. The US represents the world’s largest skin and sun care markets. A strong R&D presence in North America and an enhanced position in skin and suncare is vital to growing our business in the region and fully pays into our C.A.R.E.+ strategy.”

The group’s R&D division has 900 scientists worldwide in the Consumer Business segment, including 45 in the new US facility. Apart from the two regional Innovation Centers in China and the US, Beiersdorf has regional development labs in Brazil, India, Japan and Mexico.

The New Jersey site spans 3,000m2 (32,292ft2) of office and laboratory space and includes collaboration areas, a consumer sensory panel focus room and GMP laboratory suites to develop over-the-counter products.

Meanwhile, the new Beiersdorf headquarters in Connecticut spans 93,000m2 (1,001,043ft2) and houses 180 employees. The open-office concept offers 250 work, collaboration and tech areas. It also includes amenities such as a fitness center, a meditation area and green spaces, in addition to an indoor and outdoor dining area.
