Packaging Make-up innovations Color on show A round-up of some of the most recent make-up packaging techniques and solutions SGD looks to color matching Glassmaker SGD signed a partnership with a pigment supplier to combine make-up pigments with inks to create new decoration techniques. SGD calls the decoration techniques Les Cosmiques and they include metallic and crackled effects. The company has also come out with Color Match, whereby the color decoration on a make-up pot exactly matches the shade of the make-up inside, making it easier for consumers to select their products. Libo’s light-sensitive compact China-based Libo Cosmetics has developed a UV Light Mirror Compact. The compact’s lid changes color depending on the intensity of light, so the user can tell whether she should apply a product with UV protection. There are four variations of color that appear on the compact indicating UV light intensity: low, middle, high and very high. The technology could be applied to sunscreen caps or compact powders with SPF properties. Fusion’s true color pack Texas-based supplier Fusion Packaging launched Scene this year, a single- walled, lightweight, shatterproof bottle that provides true color indication, according to the company. Consumers can see what they are getting thanks to the bottle’s transparent PETG base that shows the color of the formula inside. According to Fusion Packaging creative director Alexander Kwapis, this represents cost savings for make-up brands as it removes the need to apply stickers on each bottle to communicate the color of the shade. It also leaves more room to decorate the surface area with techniques that include silk screening, hot stamping, UV metallization and custom coloring. The pump is made of plastic, but also comes in aluminum for a more premium look. 84 September-October 2014 - N°19 - BW Confidential
