Liquides Imaginaires Headquarters: Paris, France Launch date: 2013 Prices: €140 (40ml EdP La Trilogie des Humeurs); €160 (100ml EdP) Liquides Imaginaires comprises a series of trilogy scent collections, created by perfume designer Philippe Di Méo. Why it’s interesting: With Liquides Imaginaires, Di Méo is looking to explore imaginary and abstract elements, like sacred rituals, and translate them into olfactory creations to make up perfume trilogies. Trilogy I Les Eaux Au-Dela is described as being symbolic of sacred and emotional forces, while Trilogy II Les Eaux Sanguines is said to be inspired by ‘divine wines’. A third trilogy, called Trilogie des Humeurs, reinterprets three different moods and explores the use of medicinal and pharmaceutical ingredients in fragrance making. Strategy & upcoming plans: Since debuting in the Liquides fragrance store in Paris last fall, the brand is gaining interest from consumers and retail buyers who appreciate the quality of the scents, says David Frossard, distributor and co-founder of the Liquides store. Currently the second top-selling brand in the store, Liquides Imaginaires has begun entering selective points of sale, including Harrods in London, L’Eclaireur in Paris, and Olfactorio and Corso Como in Italy. A fourth trilogy is set to launch later this year. Spadaro Headquarters: Florida, US Launch date: 2011 Prices: $20 (sample set) - $135 (100ml) Luxury fragrance brand Spadaro, founded by Kim Spadaro, comprises four scents, which are described as a ‘tribute to the spirit of adventure and the journey of self discovery’. Why it’s interesting: Inspired by her travels, Spadaro began creating fragrances, which were found to have aphrodisiac qualities. “People went crazy for the scents I created, and said that their love life improved,” says Spadaro. Consumers and buyers are also attracted to the quality ingredients and uniqueness of the scents, she claims. “Buyers like it because it’s not everywhere; they can have a true luxury brand that is special and not a mass product.” Positioned as a lifestyle brand, Spadaro scents night clubs for special events and is planning to launch products that will expand the brand into the fashion world. Strategy & upcoming plans: Currently distributed in 12 boutiques and spas in the US, the company has just pulled out of Nordstrom, its primary partner, to focus on more selective distribution and foreign markets. The brand is currently in negotiations with companies in the Middle East and an important focus is Latin America, where there is a lot of interest. “I see the brand pairing up with a select luxury hotel in a resort location. A particular interest in the US is Blue Mercury and Cos Bar. Their locations are ideal for the demographics that my brand appeals to,” she adds. n n n September-October 2014 - N°19 - BW Confidential 67
