Radar Up & coming brands Retrouvé n n n Headquarters: Paris, France and Los Angeles, US Launch date: December 2013 Price: €385 - €440; €12 sample set Retrouvé is a luxury unisex skincare brand that embraces the facets of ‘Art, Science and Beauty’, founded by ex-Kiehl’s owners Jami Morse Heidegger and Klaus Heidegger. Why it’s interesting: The approach to creating the brand has been a personal one, based on Jami Heidegger’s knowledge of the industry, says Siddhu Sudarshan, head of strategic business development. “It’s a holistic approach to Art, Science and Beauty’,” he says. Developed initially as a line for herself, Heidegger personally sourced the ingredients and used the latest technology to make the formulas. The products are packaged in black frosted, light- protected, airless glass bottles. “Jami very much wanted a design inspired by the Renaissance, her favorite art period, and for the bottles to be a beautiful object, like a perfume bottle,” explains creative director Diana Ayanna. Strategy & upcoming plans: The brand is targeting high-end selective distribution and is currently sold in the Nose store in Paris, Skins Cosmetics in the Netherlands and Ibiza, and Nägele & Strubell in Austria. It is set to launch in Germany and the UK this year, followed by the US. “We want to ensure that the staff can support the brand and take the time to explain what is behind it, its philosophy and its vision,” says Sudarshan. La Manufacture Headquarters: Paris, France Launch date: 2014 Price: $85-$120 La Manufacture is a traditional cologne brand launched by the founder of candle company La Manufacture des Chateaux, Bruno Truchon-Bartès. Why it’s interesting: Like the La Manufacture des Chateaux candle brand, Truchon- Bartès created La Manufacture colognes in a bid to further his passion for historic preservation and traditional craftsmanship. Initially inspired by a visit to a medieval dungeon in Moret-sur-Loing in France, the Colognes Essentielles trio is designed to encapsulate the qualities of traditional cologne. The brand has partnered with suppliers like independent custom fragrance house Flair, and high-end retailers. Strategy & upcoming plans: With some 25 doors internationally currently selling the candle line, La Manufacture is looking to enter this distribution. The brand also plans to sell through specialty fragrance stores. The company is targeting additional distribution specializing in niche fragrances, independent perfumeries and high-end stores, such as Fortnum & Mason in London. n 68 September-October 2014 - N°19 - BW Confidential
