Beiersdorf opens new R&I center in Shanghai

Beiersdorf's Shanghai R&I center

German group Beiersdorf has invested €10m in a new Research & Innovation (R&I) center in Shanghai aimed at strengthening its skincare business in China and emerging markets.

The 7,500m2 (80,729ft2) center also serves as a co-working space for other innovation-related roles and teams. The location also includes a Consumer Experience Center, aimed at enhancing its contact with end consumers. Beiersdorf says it intends to significantly expand in China in the coming years.

For 10 years, Beiersdorf used its R&D center in Wuhan, China for local innovation. The new location is the company’s largest R&I center outside of its headquarters in Hamburg, Germany. The group also has centers in Brazil, India, Japan, Mexico and the US.
