DFS showcases WeChat initiatives driving digital growth

Travel retailer DFS participated in a dedicated WeChat (Tencent) virtual press conference that presented ways it has leveraged the WeChat platform, taking into consideration that businesses are being forced to migrate from offline to online channels amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

DFS’ latest innovation Scan & Go launched at the San Francisco Airport and aims to provide a seamless and efficient shopping experience. The feature allows shoppers to convert their own mobile device into a point of sale through integration with WeChat Pay and skip lines by self-checking out.

The “pre-departure” E-shop Friends & Family feature allows customers to browse, shop, check out and pay via the digital platform, before assigning a friend or family member to pick up the products in-store.

In partnership with WeChat, DFS launched the Customer Connect Mini Program in January 2019  to simplify and provide a fully digitalized sign-up process to become a part of the DFS Loyal T program. New member sign-ups are now completed in under one minute, the company says, and over 90% of PRC members sign up through this feature.

DFS says its use of WeChat enchances Chinese customers’ shopping experience by eliminating a number of steps and time to complete a transaction.
