US-based beauty brand Il Makiage has acquired an Israeli AI-based computer vision start-up called Voyage81.
Voyage81 claims to be the first company to develop patented software that brings hyperspectral imaging capabilities to smartphones. Voyage81’s software extracts over 30 channels of hyperspectral information from images taken with existing smartphone cameras. In addition to its vision software, Voyage81 is currently developing, in conjunction with smartphone manufacturers, hardware to enhance photos taken in low-light conditions.
Il Makiage says that Voyage81’s software can map and analyze skin and hair features, detecting facial blood flows, and creating melanin and hemoglobin maps from a smartphone camera photo.
The company adds that by combining that technology with its current AI algorithms, it will be able to provide online matching capabilities for its consumers.
The deal is Il Makiage’s second technology acquisition in the past 24 months. In November 2019, it acquired NeoWize, a data science start-up that develops advanced active machine learning algorithms.
