Johnson & Johnson names Joaquin Duato CEO

US-based Johnson & Johnson has named Joaquin Duato CEO, effective January 3, 2022. He will also become a member of the company’s board of directors.

Duato is currently Johnson & Johnson Executive Committee Vice Chairman. He succeeds Alex Gorsky who will stay on at the company as Executive Chairman. Gorsky has been CEO and Chairman of the group since 2012.

Duato has been a Chair of the Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) and is currently on the board of Unicef USA. He has worked at Johnson & Johnson for 30 years. His work at the company has spanned several businesses, including Diagnostics and Ortho Biotech Products.

He is credited with driving growth and profitability at the company’s Pharmaceutical and Consumer Health businesses. In his current role, he led the company’s technology transformation over the past year.
