Key beauty players are exhibiting at The China International Consumer Products Expo (CICPE), also known as the Hainan Expo, which is taking place this week at the Hainan International Convention & Exhibition Center in Haikou.
The event, which is in its third year, kicked off on April 10 and will run until April 15.
This year the show will span a total of 120,000m2 (1.3mft2) of floor space, a 20% increase compared to last year, according to Hainan’s government.
Over 3,100 brands planned to attend the expo, according to a report by Chinese news outlet China Daily, from countries such as France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Germany, US, as well as 10 member countries from the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership.
The international exhibition area will cover 80,000m2 (861,113ft2) and feature beauty players such as Shiseido and Estée Lauder Companies (ELC).
Showing commitment to China
Shiseido is exhibiting for the third year at the expo. Its booth is curated around the theme “Awaken Your Inner Beauty”, and showcases new launches, limited editions and travel-exclusive products from 11 brands.
The SHISEIDO brand is hosting its #ALIVEwithBeauty universe with distinct skincare zones focused on three core franchises: ULTIMUNE, Vital Perfection and the Future Solution LX range.
NARS is featuring its NONSTOP NARS Virtual World, where NARS makeup artistry is demonstrated through edutainment and gamification.
The brand will unveil a new foundation range, as well as travel exclusives – Face Palette and Light Reflecting Setting Powder – in red packaging.
A Japanese skincare wall displays products from IPSA, THE GINZA, BAUM, ELIXIR, and ANESSA.
ANESSA is also showcasing a limited edition of its Perfect UV Sunscreen Skincare Milk in packaging featuring Doraemon, the robotic cat character from the Japanese manga series. The ‘Whistling Doraemon’ design is exclusively available for Hainan travelers in a 90ml travel size.
Prestige fragrance brands Serge Lutens, narcisco rodriguez and ISSEY MIYAKE spotlight their latest products along a dedicated wall in the booth.
In terms of sustainability, the booth features an area dedicated to refillable products – this year, the company will provide refills for more than 150 products in the Chinese domestic market. The group also highlights its social contribution initiative, Lavender Ring, to help cancer survivors regain their self-confidence through make-up.
Shiseido opened its first duty-free counter in Hainan in 2010, and has been steadily developing its travel retail business on the island. In 2022, it had new door openings for six brands at the Haikou International Duty-Free City, the world’s largest duty-free shopping mall in Haikou, Hainan.
Estée Lauder Companies celebrates 30 years in China
The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) reaffirmed its commitment to China and Hainan Island with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the first day of the expo. This year marks the group’s 30th anniversary in China.
The ceremony was hosted by Joy Fan, the company’s President and CEO, China and Javier Simon, President, Commercial, Travel Retail Worldwide.
Fabrizio Freda, President and CEO of ELC and Israel Assa, Global President, Travel Retail, ELC, also shared video messages to highlight the importance of the Chinese market and Hainan travel retail for the group.
The company’s sustainably designed exhibition area showcases 14 of ELC’s brands.
This year marks Aveda’s debut at the Hainan Expo, on the heels of the openings its first two travel-retail brand boutiques in Hainan in January, at China Duty Free (CDF) Sanya International Duty Free Shopping Complex and CDF Haikou International Duty Free Shopping Complex.
ELC’s footprint in Hainan continues to grow. The group recently opened of a new office in Haikou in March.
In October 2022, ELC also opened 13 new brand boutiques in CDF Haikou International Duty Free Shopping Complex.
Coty looks to the future
Coty is showcasing nine of its brands at the expo under a ‘Futuristic Garden’ theme.
Its prestige brand line-up at the show includes Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Gucci, Burberry, MIU MIU, Tiffany & Co. and Chloé. The company is also debuting its premium skincare brand Orveda, while skincare brand Lancaster is presenting its new Ligne Princière line.
Coty currently has 29 doors in Hainan and plans to reach 38 in the next financial year, including seven stand-alone boutiques for its key brands.
