Vegan beauty brand Love Beauty and Planet (Unilever) is urging customers to order products online before December 4 in a bid to reduce carbon emissions produced via rush shipping.
Love Beauty and Planet claims that rush shipping is on the rise and that the delivery option produces 40% more carbon emissions than standard shipping. If every household in the US shopped online before December 4 and did not select next-day or same-day shipping, it would result in a reduction of 2.4 million tons of carbon emissions produced, according to a study commissioned by the brand.
To raise awareness, Love Beauty and Planet has launched an initiative on social media. Until December 4, for every #PlanItForThePlanet hashtag posted on social media, the beauty brand will donate $19.99 (the average value of rush shipping) up to $150k to the National Forest Foundation’s reforestation efforts. To participate in the challenge, users can post on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or TikTok.
