Social-media buzz from Retail & Tech No 24

BW Confidential checks out what is making a splash on social media: Morphe x Lisa Frank

Beauty brand Morphe has launched a make-up collection with stationery and children’s brand Lisa Frank. Social-media users have posted reviews and make-up looks inspired by the cult 90s brand.

While Morphe has pushed the collection’s launch on its social-media channels like Instagram and TikTok, users are taking to posting product reviews and make-up looks on their own thanks to the nostalgic element of the Lisa Frank brand.

Some users make themselves into Lisa Frank characters, like tigers or bears, with bright neon accents. Most post intricate eye looks with bold colors and animal prints like zebra stripes or cheetah prints.

The move comes as users reminisce over 1990s and early 2000s make-up looks on social media. Brands have been quick to react to the trend, with beauty brand Revolution launching a 90s sitcom Friends make-up collection earlier this year.

Ulta Beauty ceo Mary Dillon also noted that nostalgic themes, like Ulta Beauty Harry Potter collection, Makeup Revolution’s Nightmare Before Christmas collection and ColourPop’s Hocus Pocus collection, are resonating well with consumers.
