Space NK closes Chinese stores

UK-based beauty retailer Space NK has begun closing its stores in China.

The retailer says the closures will allow it to focus on online and other channels.

Space NK ceo Andy Lightfoot said: “Over the past two years we have invested in a multi-channel approach to retailing in China. As we constantly evaluate how best to serve and engage with our customers the uncertain outlook ahead has underlined the importance of acting decisively. We have seen strong growth in our online community and a growing trend for our Chinese customers to visit our global channels, in person when traveling in the UK and US and on SpaceNK.com, to discover the true Space NK experience of over 130 of the world’s most-wanted brands and curated icons of the future. This simplification allows us to concentrate on our core business and operations while focusing investment on continuing to grow across all key markets of which China remains one.”

Space NK launched in the Chinese market in 2018. The retailer had eight locations.
