Fragrance house Symrise celebrated perfumer Maurice Roucel’s 50-year career at an event in Paris last night.
At the event, Symrise President Global Fragrance Division Ricardo Omori, paid a touching tribute to Roucel.
“You are an example for me and for many people here, not just as a perfumer, but as a human being. I will remember you with a lot of emotion – your authenticity, and the huge legacy you leave. We are proud to celebrate your extraordinary past, but also honor the legacy that you create every day with your generosity,” Omori said.
Frédéric Malle too recounted his collaboration with Roucel for the launch of Editions de Parfums Frédéric Malle in 2000, which aimed to put the perfumer at the center of the fragrance, and Roucel’s creation of Musc Ravageur for the collection.
Symrise perfumer Suzy Le Helley described her experience as a student of Roucel, his influence on her work and lauded his humor and openness to share, teach and help new generations of perfumers in their careers.
The event also highighlighted five of Roucel’s major fragrance creations: Tocade by Rochas, Nautica Voyage, Be Delicious from Donna Karan, L’Instant de Guerlain and Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle Musc Ravageur.
