US retail grows 2.7% in July

US retail sales increased 2.7% year-on-year to $536bn in July, according to the US Census Bureau. Sales grew 1.2% compared to June 2020. Total sales for the May to July period were down 0.2% compared to the same period the year prior.

Health & Personal Care store sales grew 3.1% to $30.8bn compared to July 2019, while increasing 3.6% month-over-month. Department store sales fell 13.4% to $9.9bn compared to the year prior. Sales remained flat compared to June 2020.

Non-store retailers’ sales grew 24.7% to $84.04bn compared to July 2019, while sales remained grew 0.7% month-over-month.
