At this year’s in-cosmetics Global event, the Fragrance Zone, in partnership with BW Confidential, will showcase the latest ingredients, technologies and delivery systems in scent. In this guest article, in-cosmetics Global Event Director Andy Mather, explains why the Fragrance Zone is a must-attend for executives interested in the future of fragrance and new trends in scent.
in-cosmetics Global 2026 takes place from April 14–16 at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles in Paris, France. For more information or to register, visit the event website.
Fragrance is one of the most dynamic growth drivers in the beauty market, according to McKinsey’s latest State of Beauty report. Fragrance accounted for 19% of total beauty sales in 2024 and is expected to lead industry expansion through to 2030, with growth being fuelled by increased interest among younger consumers, alongside sustained demand for high-end and niche scents. WGSN further highlights that older Alpha boys and Gen Z men will play a role in shaping this evolution.
At the same time, the landscape is diversifying and ingredient trends are evolving. Sweet notes like caramel, vanilla and marshmallow have dominated scent for decades, but Givaudan predicts a shift in 2026 towards niche, savoury scents, such as rice, sesame and salt. Vanilla itself is expected to transition from sugary, dessert-like profiles to darker, woodier facets as consumer preferences move away from sugar-heavy experiences.
Further, fragrance in cosmetics and personal care products is gaining more consumer attention than ever and is far more than simply an olfactory signature. Embedded across formats, from foams and creams to serums, consumers are understanding that fragrance serves both technical and sensorial functions; masking base odours, enhancing perceived product quality and reinforcing brand identity.
Increasingly, fragrance contributes to a product’s efficacy narrative, supporting claims around wellbeing, mood enhancement and sensorial performance. According to Mintel, today’s consumers are drawn to products that are safe, transparent and emotionally resonant, blurring the lines between beauty, wellness and emotion.
